This Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning war drama miniseries produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks was based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose's book with the same title.
Ambrose's history is largely based on interviews with "Easy" Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division which trained in the United States before participation in major actions in Europe in World War II.
The series adapted their stories with characters based on real-life members of Easy Company, some of whose contemporary interviews were used as preludes to episodes. Identities of the real soldiers who were dramatized in the series was revealed in the final episode.
