Lucifer, a television series developed by Tom Kapinos, is based on a DC Comics character (Lucifer Morningstar) created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg in the comic book series The Sandman.
In spin-off series of graphic novels written by Mike Carey and titled Lucifer, the protagonist who was cast out of Heaven and thrown down to rule in Hell has resigned his post and abandoned his kingdom for the mortal city of Los Angeles, where he runs a nightclub and becomes a consultant to the LAPD.
The television series based on this story line revolves around Lucifer Morningstar played by Tom Ellis and Detective Chloe Decker played Lauren German. It debuted in 2016 and appeared on Fox for three seasons before being cancelled and moving to Netflix in 2019.
