The Netflix motion picture Moxie, starring and directed by Amy Poehler, is based on a novel by high school English teacher Jennifer Mathieu. The teen fiction's protagonist, inspired by her mother’s '90s Riot Grrrl feminism, creates an anonymous zine that calls out the sexist culture of her small town Texas high school, becoming a catalyst for a feminist movement on campus. At once fierce and humorous, the story is like a field manual for combatting the dress codes, hallway harassment, gross comments, and toxic masculinity of high school culture.
