A legal holiday in Illinois on the first Monday of March, Casimir Pulaski Day celebrates the birthday of a Polish cavalry officer who contributed to the United States' independence during the Revolutionary War. Pulaski is known as "the father of the American cavalry. He is celebrated mainly in areas that have large Polish populations, such as Chicago.
