Made by adding two cups of vanilla ice cream to a blender with a cup of milk, and blended with a dash of vanilla extract if desired, this treat can be ready to enjoy in less than a minute.

Considered an adult drink when it was first mentioned in print, the milkshake of the 1880s contained eggs and whiskey, and was described as a sturdy egg nog drink. Kid-friendly milkshakes emerged in the 1920s with the advent of electric blenders and soda fountains.
