Sheriff Walt Longmire is the title character in a series of mystery novels by Craig Johnson. After twenty-five years as the well-respected sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming, his plan to finish out his tenure in peace are continually thwarted by a series of murders and other crimes in 15 installments, beginning with The Cold Dish in 2004 and most recently, Land of Wolves.
The Longmire television series based on the novels aired 2012-17 on the A&E network and Netflix with Australian actor Robert Taylor in the title role and Lou Diamond Phillips playing his longtime friend Henry Standing Bear.
