A sequel to The Adventures of Tintin, directed by Steven Spielberg in 2011, was announced in 2015 under the title The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun directed by Peter Jackson with a release date in late 2016. That release was delayed in post-production, apparently, and was rescheduled for late 2021.
The motion-capture animated film The Adventures of TinTin was based on a comic strip created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. While promoting Raiders of the Lost Ark in Europe, Spielberg learned about TinTin and its similarities to Indiana Jones: an action-packed series of adventures with exotic locations, eccentric villains, and a quirky sense of humor. He collaborated with producer Peter Jackson to adapt TinTin for motion pictures with groundbreaking animation and lay the foundations for a Tintin franchise.
