Remembering Royal Audience

Winston Churchill described the bond between United States and the United Kingdom as “the Special Relationship.”

Close transatlantic tie between the two allies were a critical anchor for English-speaking nations and democracies everywhere and its perpetuation was one of Queen Elizabeth II’s most important missions throughout her reign.

“Her personal link to that era gave her a firm belief in the ‘assembly of international institutions’ built out of ‘shared sacrifices’ of wartime ‘to ensure that the horror of conflict would never be repeated,’ as she said at her 116th and final state visit banquet,” writes David Charter, US editor of The Times of London.

This made her the living embodiment of that Special Relationship. She was the unique element that helped keep American presidents emotionally connected to her own country as the world changed beyond belief.

This book progresses chronologically, chapter by chapter, through Queen Elizabeth II’s encounters and communications with the 13 American presidents who took office during her reign.

As part of each chapter, Charter describes the political and historical events of the time, and the state of the special relationship between the US and UK.
