“It’s amazing that some plants bloom right into the penultimate month of the year. But they do exist, and of course I take advantage of them,” says master gardener Claus Dalby in his book, Containers in the Garden.
Dalby fills his late-season containers with hardy recurrents, or perennials, like ivy, wire vine, Christmas rose and Sedum.
“To create color, I have planted decorative cabbages in shades of violet and white. They only get prettier as the temperature drops. The colder it gets, the more intense the colors.”
