Getting Fat Adapted

Fat cells are like food stored in a freezer for use sometime in the future. For most of us, we’ve been storing fat reserves for a long, long time and we hardly ever remove any from the freezer.

“What happens in our bodies when we’re overeating is that we train ourselves to keep eating new food to get fresh glucose right now rather than walking to the freezer, where we could take out fat cells and ‘eat them’ instead,” says Dr. Katrina Ubell in Lose Weight For The Last Time.

“It’s just easier to keep replenishing. That’s what causes a feeling of overhunger. It tricks us into thinking that we need to eat right now even when we should feel just a little twinge. It doesn’t have to be this way… When you adopt different eating habits, you stop feeling that intense overhung. Your body switches over from just calling out for new food all the time to being willing to wait until food is really necessary, and taking trips out to that garage freezer for fat store in between… which is called being fat adapted.
