Desperate Markets Test Online Sales Platform

Like many other markets worldwide, the New Glasgow Farmers Market in Nova Scotia is testing online sales platforms to support and protect its producers and customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With support from Farmers Markets of Nova Scotia and funding from the Department of Agriculture, New Glasgow Farmers Market will utilize an online service for a year.

Each week, producers will upload available products and pricing onto a website titled NGFMXpress. Online orders will be accepted beginning Sundays at noon.

Customers use a shopping cart platform to shop from products listed by item, category or by producer. Orders will be accepted and confirmed with a credit card, which will not be charged until order is picked up.

Producers drop off their products at a scheduled time on Saturday mornings. Customers will have a time slot between 1-3pm to pick up their order by driving to a numbered parking spot where a volunteer or vendor will deliver their order.

Direct contact between vendors and customers is no longer permitted, but customers are still able to buy their goods direct from the producers.
