St. George's Caye Day

The small Caribbean nation on the northeastern coast of Central America known as Belize celebrates its independence on St. George's Caye Day, September 10, commemorating a 1798 battle in which British settlers known as "Baymen" and their slaves held off am invading force of Spaniards.

St. George's Caye Day is a national and bank holiday in Belize, formerly British Honduras, celebrated with parades, games, competitions, and feasting.
