A Jewish holiday giving thanks for the Torah, Shavuot commemorates the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai and is also known as the Harvest Festival of the First Fruits of the biblical Land of Israel. Many associate the holiday with its customary treats made with dairy foods, from creamy puddings to buttery cookies. Cheesecake is so popular on Shavuot that some refer to it as “the cheesecake holiday.”
