Independence Day of Bangladesh is observed 26 March as a national holiday, commemorating the southeast Asian nation's declaration of independence from Pakistan at the end of a 1971 war of liberation. Formerly East Pakistan, Bangladesh is a secular Muslim-majority democracy.
