Observed by residents of the Falkland Islands and Great Britain, this holiday commemorates the liberation of the Falkland Islands from military occupation by Argentina at the conclusion of the 10-week Falklands War in 1982. Colonized by Britain in the 19th century, the Falkland Islands were also claimed by Spain and subsequently by Argentina following its independence from Spain.
