Observed on a Saturday nearest to the summer solstice, the Day of the Finnish Flag is one of Finland's official flag days. Also the day when Finns and Swedes celebrate Midsummer Day, the flag is flown to symbolize that during the Midsummer night darkness does not fall anywhere in the nation.
Often called the Blue Cross Flag, Finland's civil flag has a blue Scandinavian cross on a white background representing Christianity. While the design dates to the late 19th century, it was officially adopted in 1978.
