Pretzel Day

This food holiday celebrates a doughy, salty snack reputedly created by 7th century Catholic monks who twisted the bread dough in the shape of crossed arms, a traditional posture for prayer at the time.

Simply made from water, flour and salt, pretzels were a perfect food for Lent — when meat, dairy and eggs were prohibited.
