Pistachio Day

This food holiday celebrates the green-hued tree nut native to the Middle East.

Most commonly eaten as a snack, pistachios are also used in cooking and as a sweetener in desserts like Lebanese baklava.

Iran is currently the world’s largest producer of pistachios, while California leads in U.S. production.

Observed in the USA, Spain, and other countries, Pistachio Day is sometimes celebrated with giveaways and discounts.

Pistachios are also popular during Passover because of their Biblical significance. Pistachios are one of only two nuts mentioned in the Torah and in Genesis 43:11, Jacob refers to pistachios as "choice fruits" to be taken to Egypt.
