Molasses Bar Day

This food holiday celebrates baked bars made with molasses, a thick sweet syrup made from sugarcane. The name molasses derives from the Portuguese word melaço; in Britain, it is called black treacle. Whatever the term, the robustly flavored sweetener is widely used in baked goods, beer, toffee, baked beans and sauces.
