Mincemeat Pie Day

This October 26 food holiday recognizes the 15th-century English recipe for “mince pies” devised to preserve meats like mutton without salting or smoking. Today’s mincemeat pies are made up of dried fruit and spices (no meat) and served during the Christmas season in much of the English-speaking world.
