Blueberry Pancakes Day

Celebrated January 28 in the Americas, this food holiday recognizes the wisdom of combining the fluffy goodness of pancakes with the super healthy blueberry.

Pancakes have a long history, dating back to ancient Greece and medieval Europe, but adding blueberries is distinctly American.

This food holiday celebrates the integration of Native American food knowledge with pioneer cuisine. Some early settlers even viewed blueberry pancakes as good luck symbols during harvest season, believing they had the power to “ward off” bad luck.

Native American myths also tell of “star berries” (the star shape at the berry’s top), believed to have healing powers.

Look for special offers this day at select diners and restaurants.
