In the hours leading up to midnight and the dawning of the new year, much partying and celebration will occur, including the tradition of dropping objects from tall buildings to mark the moment. As the Times Square Ball is falling on New Year's Eve a paper-mache Bermuda onion covered in Christmas lights will descend in the Town Square at St. George’s in Bermuda.
Sponsored by the Corporation of St. George’s, the community event will feature a light display through York Street, Water Street, and the bridge crossing onto Ordnance Island in the hours before the onion drop. Restaurants will be open and serving traditional Bermudian fare.
