In the hours leading up to midnight and the dawning of the new year, much partying and celebration will occur, including the tradition of dropping objects from tall buildings to mark the moment. As the Times Square Ball is falling on New Year's Eve a custom-made 12-foot, 200-pound piece of bolgna will be lowered in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Bologna has been a staple in central Pennsylvania since the late 1700s; dropping a massive bologna on New Year’s Eve has been a tradition since 1997. Festivities will start five hours to the drop on Eighth Street between Chestnut and Cumberland streets.
