An illustrated children's book by artist and author Chris Van Allsburg, Zathura is a sequel to Jumanji in which two boys find an old space-themed board game. As they start playing, the house is magically hurtled through space, setting the stage for intergalactic adventures much as Jumanji propelled its characters into jungle dangers. With the help of an astronaut, the boys make their way back home.
In 2005, The book was loosely adapted into a film directed by Jon Favreau starring Hosh Hutcherson, Johan Bobo, Kristen Stewart and Dax Shepard, and titled Zathura: A Space Adventure.
Instructions to the game read: “Attention space-adventurers, Zathura awaits. Do you have what it takes to navigate the galaxy? It's not for the faint of heart, for once you embark upon your journey, there's no turning back until Zathura's reached. Pieces reset at the end of each game. Play again and again for different adventures.”
