There are more than 38,000 incorporated places, “census designated places", and consolidated cities in the United States, ranging from New York City with a population of over 8.3 million to Hobart Bay, Alaska with a population of 1.
This hefty reference, now in its 7th Edition, provides statistical data on all of these locations. In addition to population and housing data on each location, it breaks down percentages of population and employment change and ranks them by income, education, retail trade, arts and entertainment, farm work and more.
“Eighty-five percent of incorporated places had populations of less than 10,000, but these places only include 8.7 percent of the populations,” the editors point out. “Only 288 incorporated places had populations of 100,000 or more, but nearly 30 percent of Americans live in these 288 cities.”
