Engaging with nature does not require a shovel or trowel, nor do you have to believe in spirits or magical potions. In this book, educator Joann Calabrese shares dozens of meditations and activities designed to foster greater awareness in any green space, whether a backyard, park, or forest trail.
"Some of the activities are simple, fun attunements,” she explains. “Other might take a little more time to plan, and some require a commitment to practice over time.” These include exercises in tactile awareness, balance, movement and walking.
Focused plant meditations, or “correspondences” occupy the second half of the book, with 52 entries (one for each week of a year) dedicated to individual species of plants, from dandelions and apples to eggplants and snapdragons.
