Best Unspoilt Country Pub in the UK

The King’s Head in Laxfield is Britain’s best unspoilt pub, according to The Good Pub Guide 2020.

"This is a lovely, unspoilt thatched pub owned for the community by a small group of residents," says the guide. "There's an easy-going, genuinely friendly atmosphere and, unusually, no bar counter. Instead, the helpful staff potter in and out of a cellar tap bar to pour your pints.

"The interesting little chequer-tiled front room is dominated by a booth of high-backed settles next to an open fire topped by an old-fashioned stove, two other rooms have pews, old seats and scrubbed deal tables, and decorations consist of old prints and photographs."

Known locally as The Low House, the pub's 15th century features have gone largely unaltered for half a millennium. The community-run pub commits its profits to maintaining its unspoilt nature.
