Citizens of the Utah Territory voted for ratification of statehood on November 5, 1895. Two months later on January 4, 1896, President Grover Cleveland issued the proclamation admitting Utah to the Union as the forty-fifth state. Two days later, newly elected officers of the state of Utah were inaugurated and celebrations erupted throughout the new state.
