A North American celebration of Scottish heritage, Tartan Day is observed on April 6, the date of the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath which demanded independence from England and stated “For we fight not for glory, nor riches, nor honours, but for freedom alone which no good man give sup except for his life.” In some areas, the day is celebrated with parades, ceremonies, and proudly wearing tartans.
