The day after Christmas, or 26 December, is a Christian feast day commemorating Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, who was known for his service to the poor.
This feast is observed 27 December in Eastern Christianity and on 9 January in Eastern Orthodox Churches using the Gregorian calendar.
Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about,
Deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shown the moon that night,
Though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Gathering winter fuel.
~ Good King Wenceslas by John Mason Neale, 1853
