Lohri is a folk festival marking the passage of the winter solstice and the end of darkest winter in the Punjab region of northern India. Also known as Lal Loi, this Hindu midwinter celebration features bonfires, singing and dancing.
It is also associated with the harvest of the rabi crops. Gur rewri, peanuts and popcorns are the foods most associated with Lohri, as well as gajjak, sarson da saag, makki di roti, and "til rice," a sweet rice made with gur and sesame seeds.
