Festa della Repubblica

Celebrated annually on 2 June, Festa della Repubblica is the national day of Italy, also known as Republic Day or Italian National Day. It commemorates the date in 1946 when Italians voted to form a republic, ending rule by monarchy in the aftermath of World War II and the fall of fascism.

Events celebrating the holiday include parades, concerts and fireworks. Most are held in Rome, including a flag-raising ceremony at the Altare della Patria and a tribute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the President of the Italian Republic lays a laurel wreath, followed by a military parade along Via dei Fori Imperiali.
