Dominican Restoration Day

Known in Spanish as 'el día de la Restauración Dominicana', this holiday commemorates the Dominican Restoration War which began on August 16, 1863 and ended with a decree by Queen Isabel II of Spain relinquishing Spanish control on March 3, 1865.

Celebrated as a national holiday with parades and fireworks, this is also the date when the Dominican president is sworn into office every four years.
