Dita e Pavarësisë is the national independence day of Albania, commemorating the Albanian Declaration of Independence from the Ottoman Empire proclaimed in Vlorë on 28 November 1912. The Assembly of Vlorë formed the first Government of Albania six days later, led by Ismail Qemali and the Council of Elders. The date corresponds with the Albanian Flag Day (Dita e Flamurit), a national holiday marking the rise of the Albanian flag in 1912 and the day Albanian military leader Skanderbeg unfurled the same flag in 1443.
