Bolivian Flag Day

Día de la Bandera de Bolivia is observed 17 August each year, commemorating the creation of the first Bolivian flag and crest in 1825, eleven days after independence from Spain was proclaimed.

The red band in the tricolor flag represents the bravery of those who struggled for freedom, its yellow symbolizes the nation’s rich natural resources, and the green band stands for Bolivia’s lush, unspoiled beauty. At the center of the flag lies the coat of arms of Bolivia. a cartouche surrounded by Bolivian flags, cannons, laurel branches, and an Andean condor on top.

The special day is celebrated with parades, poems and the national anthem, Bolivianos, el Hado Propicio
