Sometimes referred to as “the dumpling inspired by Venus' navel,”the ring shaped pasta known as tortellini is often filled with cheese or meat. According to legend, it was first created by an Italian innkeeper in Castelfranco Emilia who caught sight of the goddess Venus staying in one of his rooms an created the pasta in the shape of her perfect belly button. Tortellini is celebrated with a food holiday on February 13 when pasta lovers enjoy them with butter and sage, prosciutto and parmesan, or a rich sauce.
