Tempura Day

This food holiday celebrates deep fried Japanese dishes made with lightly battered vegetables and seafood. The thin batter made with cold water and flour was introduced to Japan by Portuguese Jesuit missionaries in the 16th century. Eggs, cornstarch, or baking soda are sometimes added to the mix, which is stirred quickly and used right away.
