Observed on September 13, this USA food holiday pays homage to a tasty legume, the peanut, also known as a goober, goober pea, monkey nut, earthnut, pygmy nut, and a pig nut. Frequently used in candies, cakes, cookies, and other sweets, peanuts are also eaten raw, or roasted made into peanut butter, peanut oil, or even solvents and medicines. Rich in nutrients, peanuts are a good source of protein, niacin, folate, fiber, vitamin E, magnesium and phosphorus.
