Jackfruit Day

Observed on July 4 each year, this food holiday celebrates a tropical fruit that is nutrient-dense, rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

The national fruit of Bangladesh, jackfruit probably originated in India and has spread throughout Southeast Asia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and other tropical climates. It can be grown in some subtropical places as well.

Ripe jackfruit has a subtle sweet flavor, often described as a combination of banana, apple, and mango.

Jackfruit can be found year-round at farmers markets in tropical or subtropical regions; imported fruit may be found in local grocers or through online vendors.
