Also known as eggy bread or omelet bread, French Toast is a popular breakfast dish across the United States. Essentially bread dipped in a mixture of egg and milk and sautéed, French Toast first appeared in print in the Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink in 1871. In France, this dish is known as pain perdu.
