Observed each year on August 4, this food holiday celebrates one of America's favorite treats — the chocolate chip cookie
Enjoyed in many forms, from crispy to chewy, tiny to mammoth in size, this baked good is often paired with a glass of milk, coffee, or tea.
The first chocolate chip cookie is attributed to Ruth Graves Wakefield, who prepared it in 1938 at the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Initially intended to be regular chocolate cookies, she added chunks of a chocolate bar, leading to the delightful discovery of chocolate chips.
Graves’ innovation popularized the cookie and helped establish the Toll House brand, which Nestlé baked into American culture by featuring its recipe on its chocolate chip packaging.
