Observed on January 15 in the United States, this food holiday celebrates a dense and chewy ring of bread whose origins date back to the 17th century in Krakow, Poland. Eastern European Jewish immigrants introduced bagels to the America in the 19th century. The bagel bakeries that emerged on Manhattan's Lower East Side to serve these immigrant created the famous New York-style bagel.
